Bike for 5'0" 10 year old

I want to get my son a bike for his birthday but not sure which size to go with. I actually already bought a 24" Mongoose XR-75 (really nice blue). But I'm wondering if I should go with a 26". He's tall for his age and seems to be growing fast. I don't want to have to buy another bike too soon. Problem is right now he probably needs an XS frame but they're harder to come by and more expensive. I thought about getting him a 16" Nishiki or 16" Diamond Back from Dicks. But that will still be too big for him but I don't want to go over $250. The 24" just has no upgrade path but I do have a soon-to-be 5 year old. So maybe if I can get 2 years of riding from the 10 year old and then my little one ride it more when he's big enough it will be worth it? I paid $135 for the 24". What do you think; take the 24" back and get the 16" 26 or just keep the 24"?

This is going to blow your budget by $100, but check out the Tyax comp on sale on amazon for $350: ... 208&sr=8-2

The Diamondback Responce is slightly less, and still available in XS ... 347&sr=1-1

This GT is a bit above most BBB's, and is only $299 from bikes direct: ... ssor_1.htm

A XS bike will work for a 5 footer, and he can ride it for quite some time. The Tyax is the best bike, with the Responce close behind. The GT isnt in the same class, but is still a good bike at a great price. I'd take the 24" back, get the 16" and go for the GT if the budget restricts you from going for the Tyax.
My bikes: Mongoose Valiant, Tyax Elite, Switchback SS, Blackcomb, and the old DXR
