Not much to report since last time.
But I did get one of those Bell universal cable kits from Walmart, and got the shifter cables/housings cut, mounted all clean and derailers are adjusted, then soldered the ends of the cables. Also took the rear caliper to work, and milled the slots .125 longer because the pads wouldn't quite hit the 700c rim properly.
Rear caliper is polished, now waiting for the wax to dry.

Only things left to do now is figure out how to deal with the peeling chrome on the bars, cut and assemble the brake cables, and finish polishing the pedals.

It'll get there sooner or later..
