Wide-tire bicycles with flotation are great in snow or on sand.

which fat tire bike to buy

Postby djasinski » Mon Nov 23, 2015 3:00 pm

I am looking for help to find a fat tire BBB.

I want an all aluminum frame
4 inch wide tires
1x7 or 2x7 or 3x7 drive line
front and rear disc brakes

I will use it as a single track style and a little of down hill in the snow.

what are your recommendations.

Thanks

No, I could not find that good of a deal on the Vinson. I like it and will keep an eye out for a good sale.

These fatter tires are tending to be almost as expensive as buying a new bike.

I wanted better new tires for my 27.5"-plus "mid-fat" Mongoose Hondo, but settled on the stock tires sold through WalMart for just $28 a pair.

I saw some super-cool Surly 4" tires today in person, they had deep tread with big widely-spaced knobs like a dirt bike.
I bet that they cost over $100 each, they were mounted to a $5500 Salsa titanium fatbike that the guy was asking $3200 for in as-new condition.
Makes me really glad that I bought the smaller-tire 27.5-plus $200 Hondo, a bike that actually gets ridden a lot, on and off-road.

Just to update my above post from six weeks ago, Chompchomp posted this link to a folding 4" tire for only $28.00:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/e ... prod149538

And I saw that Walmart sells 26x4" tires for $40/pair.

And, for my mid-fat Hondo's tires, I found that WTB's and Vittoria's 27.5x2.3" tires fill out to the same width as the stock "2.8-inch" tires, when fitted to the Hondo's crazy-wide (57mm outside) rims.
I was able to buy some of these lighter tires online for only a little more than the stock Chao Yang tires that I ordered and bought from Walmart.
