Budget Fork under $100

Postby c_man7 » Tue Dec 13, 2016 3:03 pm

I'm looking to replace my front for on my v2100.
Already upgraded a few parts
headset, stem, bars, brakes, etc.
Looking to upgrade bouncy forks.
I'm trying to stay under $100 trying to keep this build cheap.
Ive found the
Sr suntour XCT-cheap
Sr suntour XCM (leaning towards)-seem good but a little heavy

RST CAPA-cheap
RST GILA (second Choice)-lighter then the XCM but not so good reviews

Or should I just get the SR suntour XCR?

The XCR moves into the middle/decent category, the most recent years got the new lowers with factory-pressed bushings instead of the user-replaceable slide-out bushings that allowed too much free-play for the seals to work.
Newer XCR forks are also a stout 32mm diameter up at the stanchions, so are much better if you're using a disc brake, and most XCRs have oil damping as part of the hydraulic lockout feature.

I went up to the $177 level to get a light, smooth Epicon fork for my Huffy TR745, but the newer XCR forks at least seem to be worth twice as much as any XCM or XCT fork even if they are still pretty heavy.

I just saw those on ebay (for about twice the price) and was going to make a thread about them. Did you ever get them? Could they possibly be unbranded name brand parts or are these their own part?

I don't like the looks of this Ebay seller after looking at their uninformative feedback page or at their current offerings, none of which sell for more than $20 or so and most for much less.

Ebay seems to be allowing all sorts of Chinese vendors to post fraudulent listings, and from what I have heard they are very slow to respond to complaints about such vendors who fail to deliver and who start up new accounts right and left. I believe there are now a great number of fraudulent vendors operating out of China, so a stronger feedback and listings of similar items are required for me to bid or buy from Ebay.

Ebay's feedback pages now don't even show what items were sold to generate the feedback, so more than ever it is buyer beware.
Sellers with feedback from selling only very cheap items can easily sneak in fraudulent listings of expensive items and then abandon their accounts as they fail to deliver those items.

This is as much or more the fault of Ebay as it is of any vendors. I believe that they are tempting possibly very poor people to scam Ebay buyers.

Mine already shipped. I'm not worried about it. Worst case scenario I have to wait a few weeks for a claim to process. That's not any different than a claim with a US seller.

Definitely keep us updated on this one!
I'm sure a lot of people are interested in a review on such a low priced option!

Heck yeah, keep us informed.

But I wonder if this vendor will continue to stock forks, since none of their other stuff seems bike related.
